Wear What’s There Weekend

I’ve almost made it to the midway point in my journey and aside from three gifts and some replacement make-up, nothing new has entered into my tool kit for outward presentation. Not even pants.

I shan’t lie, it has been lovely to receive new things to wear something fresh. But it’s also been refreshing to rediscover things in my wardrobe I didn’t know I loved and feel good. I feel like I’ve grown up a bit (finally) and learnt it is actually possible to feel confident and put together without getting my card out. Although truth be told, I know my card number off by heart thanks to way too many online purchases…

Enjoying my new dress (a gift from my super lovey and stylish friend!) with an old jacket and very well worn Converse

I’ve also dipped my little toe into the world of fashion ethics. I know nothing. I really don’t. Except the common sense that consuming and throwing, consuming and throwing can not be good for the planet or the little fingers that made the clothes so disposable. In a sense, I don’t think my challenge will ever be over as next year I will have to shop without ignoring my conscience. This will probably mean more. More research and  more spending per item. Previously this would not have been possible as I would have carried with me this panic and urgency for having something shiny and new to make me feel good. Complete, if you will.  Ah how I believed such a lie. And how I will again I’m sure. But without that lie having a cosy ride on my shoulder I hope I will ultimately be positioned to buy fewer pieces which will hopefully afford me to buy better.

And I would love for others to join me on my new found train! Toot Toot! Would you like to see if you too can enjoy what you have? Just at the weekend. With just one outfit, created from items you bought prior to 2018?

I realise for some they may just not be shoppers or place particularly high value on presenting the outward them. If that’s you, I’m not calling you. You’re already chilled about this!

And a little nudge to say that this isn’t about wearing ill-fitting clothes and feeling rubbish that day, just so you don’t feel guilty about shopping! It’s not so that you can feel superior about your ethics either. It is about feeling GOOD! Feeling yourself, but without bowing down to consumerism. Are you in?

Pick an item of clothing from before 2018. Pinterest it if you need inspiration. Outfit up this weekend. Take a pic. Post on Instagram or Facebook and tag me @wearwhatsthere and use the # #wearwhatsthereweekend

Then feel secretly smug when you can reply to all the compliments with a genuine ‘What? This old thing?’.
